British brand The Vampire’s Wife, created by Susie Cave, partner of “prince of darkness” Nick, is the frock phenomenon. You’ll have seen her high-necked, distinctively shaped designs on everyone from film posse Jodie Comer, Sienna Miller and Thandiwe Newton to Trinny, Adele and the Duchess of Cambridge (the latter’s emerald incarnation immortalised in her latest portrait).Elsewhere, the emo Olsen twins helm one of fashion’s most aspirational labels, while YK2 nostalgia means that vintage Alexander McQueen, John Galliano and Tom Ford for Gucci feel au courant.
A Dr Martens boots revival has been rumbling away for a while. Jeweller Jessica McCormack’s new collection is full of crucifixes and Alighieri rocks are an homage to Dante’s Inferno, while Harris Reed had his goth love-in at Missoma.
All will be sported with an ultra-Addams, Gen Z centre parting. One can see the appeal. Goth is the opposite of the Love Island mode, proffering leather, fishnet, lace, studs, spikes, corsets, harnesses and virulent Victoriana in place of crass contouring and stilettos.
