This year will mark her eighth nomination at the Oscars, as she is up for Best Supporting Actress for her role as a tough-as-nails grandmother in Hillbilly Elegy, with many eager to see her finally take home the pretigious award.
Close was first nominated for the Academy Award in 1983, for Best Supporting Actress in The World According to Garp. The following two years she landed her name back on the list for the same accolade, for The Big Chill (1984) and The Natural (1985), but narrowly lost out.
