Gavin and Stacey enthusiasts were absolutely thrilled as the cherished gang came together one last time for a festive showdown on Christmas Day.

After a whole 17 years brimming with laughter and unforgettable personalities, fans finally got their fix in what was a poignant sign-off from the much-adored BBC series.The grand finale revealed Smithy, played by James Corden, had declined Nessa's (Ruth Jones) proposal from the much-talked-about 2019 Christmas special, and instead was opting to wed his other half Sonia, portrayed by Laura Aikman.

While hearts were heavy and nerves frayed, fans were ecstatic to witness a happy resolution for Nessa and Smithy as the 90-minute episode drew to an end.

Scriptwriters Ruth and James endeavoured to get the whole crew back together, bringing in stars such as Russell Tovey (Budgie) and Sheridan Smith (Rudi).
