Celtic star Aaron Mooy has found himself at the centre of a back and forth between England legends Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer live on air.

The 32-year-old has been a standout for Australia on their surprise surge to the knockout rounds of the World Cup, with the experienced playmaker proving to be vital to sealing the Socceroos' showdown with Argentina in Qatar.

However, the knockout rounds proved a step too far for Graham Arnold's men as they were sent out by Lionel Messi and co despite a battling performance.

The superstar frontman marked his 1000th game with a goal and a place in the quarter-final stages, but it was Mooy that was the man in focus for Newcastle United legend Shearer before a ball was kicked.
