Full list of rail operators disrupted by Wednesday's train drivers strike including Avanti, Northern and TransPennine

Hundreds of rail services will be cancelled on Wednesday as train drivers across the country go on strike. All major operators are set to be affected by the industrial action with most cancelling all services for the whole of the day.

It comes as members of the drivers’ union Aslef at 16 train operators in England walk out as part of a long-running dispute over pay and conditions.

The strike coincides with the final day of the annual Conservative Party conference which is taking place in Manchester. Mick Whelan, Aslef’s general secretary, said the government was preventing a settlement to the year-long dispute that has already led to a number of walkouts. Mr Whelan added: “He holds the purse strings. The train operating companies have told us they cannot act without his say so.
