Fraudsters tricked me into paying £169 for a new roof - now the bank says it's my fault

For the past few months I have been doing a scam awareness campaign on my LBC Radio show ‘The Consumer Hour’. During this I have consistently advised that if you fall victim to a push payment scam (that is where you are tricked into sending money to a fraudster direct from your bank account), you can claim your money back from the bank.

This is thanks to a voluntary reimbursement code that was introduced in May 2019 which many of the banks have signed up to. This code was due to end this month, but this week it has been announced that it will be extended to June 2021, to give additional time for a more formal scheme to be put in place.
