A major airport in Sicily has been forced to close until Wednesday (July 19) afternoon after a fire broke out in the terminal.
Flights at Catania airport have been suspended following the blaze which occurred on Sunday. The airport said that there were no injuries reported and that it would not reopen again until 2pm on July 19.
The blaze was contained within 90 minutes, firefighters said, but they haven’t given any details on the possible causes, Reuters reported.
The UK Foreign Office has urged holidaymakers heading to Sicily to contact their travel operator. It said: “Due to a fire in the airport terminal, Catania airport is closed until 14.00 on July 19.
