Footage shows two wartime ‘bombs’ washed up on Scots beaches in just 24 hours destroyed in controlled explosion

bomb squad has carried out controlled explosions of two wartime ‘explosives’ that washed up on South Uist.Coastguard teams were scrambled after the first piece of suspected ordnance was discovered on the sand in Howmore at around 1.50pm on Saturday.The item was soon found by the Benbecula and Lochboisdale crew who passed its exact location back to the Stornoway Coastguard Operations Centre.Less than 24 hours later, the teams were again scrambled after a second possible explosive was found in Drimsdale at 12.42pm.Attempts were made to dispose of both items by the Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Team but the mission was called off due to falling light on Sunday.The items were eventually disposed of on Monday morning in Culla Bay.A statement.
