The community is grieving the loss of "talented little guy" who tragically died after being shot on a farm. Jay Cartmell, eight, suffered serious head and facial injuries during an incident on land in the village of Warcop on Saturday, with reports suggesting he was 'rabbit hunting' when the tragedy occurred.

The boy was taken to hospital by air ambulance but sadly passed away soon after. Police since confirmed a firearm had been recovered from the scene and a man in his 60s had been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.

Football clubs across west Cumbria have since paid tribute to Jay, who was a youth player for Whitehaven Miners FC.
