First doses of coronavirus vaccine to be administered in UK on Tuesday, NHS boss says

The first doses of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine will be administered on Tuesday, according to an NHS boss. Chris Hopson, chief executive of NHS Providers, said immunisation will be "a marathon, it's not a sprint", telling BBC Breakfast: "We're looking forward to the race starting on Tuesday." Britain has ordered 40 million doses of the vaccine, with two doses per person meaning 20 million people will receive the first round of jabs.

Mr Hopson said hospitals are working out how many care home residents, care home staff and over-80s they can get to. "Each one of those groups has a different set of characteristics in terms of the logistical difficulty of doing the vaccination," he said, pointing out that the vaccine needs to be transported
