Firefighters rush to tackle blaze at derelict Greater Manchester school

Emergency crews raced to a derelict school building in Trafford after a fire was started on Tuesday afternoon (January 7). Police and the fire service were called to the blaze at the former Trafford High School building on Lydney Road, in Flixton, which closed down in 2020.

Fire crews could be seen in attendance along with multiple fire engines at the site, which is boarded up. Witnesses reported seeing a group of children enter the building shortly beforehand.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed they were called to the fire at around 2.30pm. No injuries were reported, and investigations are ongoing.

It is understood a group was reported to be seen nearby. No arrests have been made. Video footage taken at the scene showed multiple fire engines lining Lydney Road along with police vehicles.
