Firefighters deal with second fire in Atherton less than an hour after blaze which hospitalised man in 70s

manchestereveningnews.co.ukFirefighters in Atherton were called to house fire, just 40 minutes after a previous blaze less than half a mile away. At around 9.20am, emergency services were scrambled to Ashfield Avenue and a man in his 70s was taken to hospital with burns.
Then, just before 10am, firefighters had to tackle a fire in Gloucester Street. According to the fire service, trees in a house's front garden caught fire and it spread to the porch area.
Quinton Smith, who owns the house, said: "I'm just in shock at the moment. "Luckily the door that's burned is just an addition.
The original front door is still in tact so it's more superficial damage. "We're not 100pc sure how it started but they were clipping a bush down so it might have been something to do
