Firefighters deal with second fire in Atherton less than an hour after blaze which hospitalised man in 70s

Firefighters in Atherton were called to house fire, just 40 minutes after a previous blaze less than half a mile away. At around 9.20am, emergency services were scrambled to Ashfield Avenue and a man in his 70s was taken to hospital with burns.

Then, just before 10am, firefighters had to tackle a fire in Gloucester Street. According to the fire service, trees in a house's front garden caught fire and it spread to the porch area.

Quinton Smith, who owns the house, said: "I'm just in shock at the moment. "Luckily the door that's burned is just an addition.
