Formula One chief Chase Carey has penned an open letter to fans in which he says the sport plans to begin the 2020 season "as soon as it's safe to do so" - and also apologised for their handling of the axed Australian Grand Prix.

The global coronavirus chaos has wreaked havoc on the F1 season, which was due to get underway in Melbourne last weekend. The season-opening Australian Grand Prix was axed on Friday after a McLaren mechanic tested positive for coronavirus, with Lewis Hamilton among those to criticise F1 bosses for even attempting to host the race.
