The UK is bracing for the strongest winds of the season so far, with one area of Scotland expected to see wind gusts of 107mph.
Storm Éowyn is expected to cause major disruption in areas affected by rare red weather alerts overnight and on Friday. Rail services have been axed, schools have been forced to close and people have been told not to travel as the UK braces for the 'threat to life' warnings.
Red weather warnings for wind will come into effect in Northern Ireland from 7am until 2pm on Friday, and for western and central areas of Scotland between 10am and 5pm.
Passengers and motorists in areas covered by red and amber weather warnings have been told to avoid travel “unless absolutely essential”.
