Former ITV presenter Eamonn Holmes has accused his former employer of a “total cover up” of the affair between Phillip Schofield and a much younger staffer in a scathing interview on GB News.
Eamonn, 63, who now hosts the Breakfast Show at rival broadcaster GB News, told Dan Wootton that ITV bosses “had to know” about the relationship.
Phillip Schofield, 61, resigned from This Morning on 20 May and admitted a week later that he had had an “unwise but not illegal” relationship with a younger colleague while he was the host of This Morning.
ITV says that they investigated “rumours of a relationship” in 2020 but that both parties “repeatedly denied” the claims and that the broadcaster wasn’t able to find “any evidence of a relationship beyond hearsay and rumour.” Eamonn, however, claims that “those in authority” knew about the relationship and even organised taxis that ferried Phillip’s affair partner back and forth from his house. The GB News star even said that Phillip and his lover would have “playtime” on Thursdays when they “hit the town” and “stay overnight” together. “There were records to show that he was brought in next day separately in cars paid for by ITV,” before adding that he believes they “would have seen that and known.” Eamonn also claimed that Phillip Schofield was “so rude” and that “he created an atmosphere where people hated him, that people would avoid him in the corridor.
