Erskine Bridge closed as Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior sails up Clyde to COP26

The Erskine Bridge has temporarily closed to traffic to allow a Greenpeace yacht to safely sail under it. The Rainbow Warrior is travelling up the Clyde in an attempt to dock at the COP26 climate conference at the SEC in Glasgow.

Police Scotland took the decision to close the bridge as a precaution amid concerns over the level of clearance between the road deck and the top of the ship's masts.A river pilot has boarded the vessel to guide it as far as the COP26 security cordon downstream but there are reports the boat's skipper intends to sail as close to the SEC as possible, where leaders including Joe Biden are speaking today.
