Energy expert shares 12 ways to beat the price cap and save over £1,500 on fuel bills

Millions of households across Scotland and the rest of the UK are facing an even bigger increase in their fuel bills from April when Ofgem announces its new energy price cap on Thursday.

The energy price cap, which acts as a backstop to limit the amount that households have to pay for default tariffs, now sits at £1,277, however, Cornwall Insights, an energy sector specialist, warns bills could rise to an eye-watering £1,915 a year, putting even further pressure on household finances.

However, Kevin Pratt, energy expert at price comparison and financial guidance platform, Forbes Advisor, shares 12 tips that could save you an impressive, and much needed £1,533 this year, on average.

Remembering to turn appliances off to standby mode could save households around £30 each year.Most electrical and electronic appliances are safe to turn off at the plug without it affecting their programming - although it is best to check the user manual to be sure.
