Emmerdale 's director Tim O'Mara has teased that "eight or nine characters" might be killed off during the ITV soap's 50th anniversary storm stunt week.

The director warned that "no one is safe" during an appearance on ITV Yorkshire, teasing: "Viewers are in for a number of surprises!" Tim said: "No one is safe. There's a possibility of eight or nine characters not being around for very long." He added: "We do go to the hospital on a number of visits - a number of people hurt by debris flying around the village, there are accidents in the woods, trees falling on people. "There are massive accidents at the farm, which might attract the attention of one or two characters." Teasing more action, he said: "There's a massive problem in the village that will involved two of the other characters.

Plus, there's some stunts in the woods nearby. "And of course, there's a wedding. So when you mix all of that up, it's going to be sensational." Tim added: "Viewers are in for a number of surprises. They will see parts of the village destroyed." It comes as Emmerdale fans were left devastated on Monday night as Harriet Finch died after she was caught in a deadly storm explosion with Kim Tate during the ITV soap's 50th anniversary.

A devastated Kim, who was left bloodied from the accident, confirmed the news to her new-husband and Harriet's ex, Will Taylor, after making her way home.
