In a sad turn of events mirroring the soap, actor Steve Halliwell actually passed away in December at the age of 77. With Zak residing in Scotland, his sons Cain (played by Jeff Hordley) and Sam (James Hooton) journeyed north to retrieve his remains and return him to the village.
Zak's farewell was marked with poignant scenes during his funeral, which viewers witnessed a few weeks back. Adding to the emotional weight, Zak's daughter Tina Dingle, played by Samantha Power, made a comeback after 28 years away from Emmerdale.
The loss of Zak has certainly sent shockwaves through the Dingle family, as he was the patriarch and much-loved figurehead. But in a twist that aired on Thursday's episode (October 31), fans were left astonished to see a doppelganger of Zak Dingle on their screens, reports Leeds Live.
