Muslims around the world will be celebrating Eid al-Adha today. The holiday falls on the tenth day of the 12th and final month - Dhu al-Hijjah, also known as ‘The Month of the Pilgrimage’.
This year Eid al-Adha begins on Friday 31 August. The celebration honours the tale of the prophet Ibrahim, who was prepared to sacrifice his own son under God’s command.
At the last moment, God produced a lamb for Ibrahim to sacrifice instead, sparing his beloved son. Muslims celebrate with feasts and prayer with their friends, family and the community.
