Ajax chief executive Edwin van der Sar has admitted that it was a 'hard blow' losing winger Antony to Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

United confirmed the signing of Antony from Ajax in a deal rising to €100million (£85.5m) in August, with the 22-year-old signing a five-year contract with the option of an additional year.

The Brazilian became the club's second-most expensive signing of all time. Erik ten Hag was desperate to sign the Ajax man, but the club were initially reluctant to meet the Dutch club's valuation of the player and club figures doubted a deal was doable at the start of July.

However, Antony made his intention clear to sign for United and work with Ten Hag again, and the two clubs were able to reach an agreement for a transfer for the 22-year-old.
