But Dortmund made it clear from the off that they weren't going to be intimidated by the Old Trafford club, and slapped a £108million price tag on the England international.
Not only this, but the Bundesliga club gave United a deadline to sign the forward. Calling Dortmund's bluff, United refused to play ball and remained hopeful that the German club would come down on their asking price.
But BVB doubled down, with Dortmund chief Michael Zorc announcing: "We are planning with Sancho. He'll play for us next season.
