East Kilbride Thistle strike duo driving club's scoring spree, says boss

East Kilbride Thistle boss Aaron Connolly believes a friendly rivalry between hot-shots Mitchell Rooney and Michael Blues is driving the Jags to their stunning scoring spree at the Showpark.For the second home game running, Thistle hit their opponents for six as they followed up last week’s 6-1 win over Saltcoats Victoria with the same scoreline over Carluke Rovers on Saturday.Rooney and Blues were on target last week and they both bagged braces – in between goals from Adam Edgar and Jamie Scullion – to help their side sink Rovers, taking the team up to fourth in the West of Scotland Fourth Division, five points behind leaders St Peter’s.Connolly believes the duo are bringing out the best in each other, with Rooney hitting seven goals in six games and Blues notching six in six.He said: “Mitchell seems to have a wee competition going among themselves at the moment.“The two of them have started the season flying and I am delighted for them both.“Michael came in halfway through last season, having not played a lot of football, and took his time to get going, but he has started this season on fire.“Mitchell is someone we found watching 20s football last season.

He had two successful seasons at Neilston and we are delighted to have in the group.“He seems to really have taken to it here and it is great to see him continue that form.“Both of them are scoring at a good rate and we just hope they can continue that.“They have both set each other up a lot of the time as well so there is a great relationship forming there in the forward areas.“Our club captain, Adam Edgar, has scored three in three games so far as well, so guys like that will be big players for us this season.”Thistle have won all three of their league games on home
