East Kilbride boss Kevin Rutkiewicz was pleased to see an immediate response from his side after Caledonian Braves threatened to derail their Lowland League title ambitions on Saturday.Kilby were 2-0 up at half-time thanks to two goals in the opening 13 minutes from Jamie Docherty and Ronan Hughes at K-Park.A quick-fire double from Braves hauled them level after a Marc Kelly penalty and a Luke Main strike.
But just seconds after Braves made it 2-2, Neil McLaughlin edged EK back in front and Cami Elliott made sure of the points in the 77th minute. With EK one of just two games to beat the weather in the division, Rutkiewicz’s men moved up to second spot in the table, a point ahead of Tranent who have played a game less and three points off leaders Rangers B who have two games in hand. And Rutkiewicz said: “The response to their equaliser was really pleasing.
More often than not, the team coming from behind has the momentum and that one point then turns into three points for them.“So I was delighted the way we came back.
There was an evident response to their equaliser. They had three points in their hands and then potentially it was looking like one, so they showed great fighting spirit and I’ll give them all the kudos for that.“But it’s a wee warning to us that we can’t be complacent and we need to close doors.“We should know only too well what can happen.
