The Department for Work and Pensions is set to review new evidence regarding the system for issuing sick notes, which currently allows individuals to be excused from work.
Under the existing system, those claiming Universal Credit can receive additional financial support on top of their benefit payment if they are deemed too ill to work.
After three months of fit notes being sent to the DWP, a work capability assessment is conducted. Claimants may then be placed in one of two incapacity groups.
The Limited Capability for Work (LCW) group means that while they are not required to find immediate employment, they must prepare for future work, such as updating their CV or attending training courses.
