The owner of a dog is to be spoken to by police after an altercation between pets in a park left two women in hospital. Armed police and emergency services closed Leigh Road in Atherton while they carried out a search of the area, a police helicopter was scrambled, and a dog was seized.

They had responded to reports of one dog attacking another on playing fields on Saturday morning at Jubilee Park. The Manchester Evening News understands no arrests have been made, however an investigation is ongoing – the owner of the dog seized has been identified and will be spoken to by officers at a later time.

The dog was held at the scene and will be held until the investigation reaches an outcome. Two women - the owners of the dogs involved in the incident - received bite injuries which were not believed to be life threatening or life changing.

The dog subjected to the attack was taken for treatment having suffered serious bite injuries. Ambulance crews were called as the owners of two dogs were injured after they tried to separate them when one attacked another.
