'Doctors told me I was fine - then a mole turned my life upside down'

A mum who was told not to worry by doctors has spoken of her journey after a small mole changed her life. Michelle Richardson, 49, admits she never thought too much about applying SPF while basking in the sun at home.

But five years ago, her life was transformed after a visit to the doctor saw her diagnosed with melanoma. The mum has now has issued a stark warning to sun-loving Brits after she became riddled with small tumors all over her body, including on her lungs and brain, reports The Mirror. Within two weeks she was referred to a dermatologist. They reassuringly said it was nothing to worry about and asked the mum, who worked as a neurophysio, to return in three months just in case and warned her to keep an eye on it.

But the itchiness persisted and it grew darker. "He [the dermatologist] said it is probably just your bra strap rubbing, I don't think it's melanoma, see you in three months," Michelle tells The Mirror. "When I went back to see him, I asked for a biopsy which he did that day. "He was very reassuring and said 'don't worry, I'll give you a call as the results come back.
