A desperate care home nurse today pleaded to the Government: “Help us, please!” Laura Hibbard, 34, said coronavirus has “ripped through” her nursing home, one of three linked homes which have already lost 11 people to Covid-19.

They have had 51 confirmed cases and 30 staff have tested positive, with 45 in isolation. But despite the death toll, staff have a “daily fight” to find enough PPE to protect everyone.

Exhausted Laura, who has had one day off in 10 at Newfield Nursing Home in Sheffield, pleaded to ministers: “Help us. Please, help us. “More people are going to die.

We are worried for our patients and ourselves.” Despite the horror they are facing, her care home bosses claim they have actually seen their funding cut in the city.
