Declan Donnelly left King Charles in stitches with a hilarious comment about Ant McPartlin and his newborn. The TV star explained to the King that his co-host Ant was absent from a Buckingham Palace reception because he was on daddy duties, feeding his baby.

Dec, one half of the famous duo Ant and Dec, apologised to the monarch for his friend's absence, explaining that Ant was busy caring for his newborn son.The 48 year old TV star was attending a reception at the palace with his wife Ali Astall, celebrating young individuals who have transformed their lives with help from The Prince's Trust.

After meeting the King, Dec shared: "I passed on Ant's apology that he couldn't be here today because he was at home breastfeeding." With a chuckle, he added: "I don't know whether I broke royal protocol by giving that information." Ant had previously announced the arrival of his son, Wilder Patrick McPartlin, on Instagram with a touching black and white photo of him cradling his new bundle of joy, reports the Mirror.

When asked about rumours of him being the godfather to the newborn, Dec revealed he hadn't been officially asked, saying: "Everybody else has presumed, I won't presume." The reception allowed the King to meet the winners of the Prince's Trust Awards, where he mingled with recipients and celebrities who presented the awards, including actor Martin Freeman, Pixie Lott and Ellie Simmonds.
