Dramatic pictures show a 5G phone mast left destroyed after it burst into flames on a main road in the early hours of this morning.
The mast on Manchester Road in Ashton-under-Lyne set alight at around 4am today (Sunday, November 3). Fire crews raced to the scene, as police officers also descended on the main road.
A stretch of the road was closed off as firefighters extinguished the blaze. An investigation into what caused the 15 metre-high mast to burst into flames is now underway. A cordon remains in place on part of the road, with traffic being turned away from the area. Firefighters continuing to 'make the area safe' today.
