A man was paid just £5 in Universal Credit the week before Christmas after he missed Job Centre appointments because he was in jail.
Declan Sylvester revealed he could not attend the allotted times because he was serving a sentence for possession and threatening use of an air rifle.
The 24-year-old was given a suspended prison sentence in January last year after threatening teenagers with an air rifle after mistakenly believing they stole his bike.
However, he was jailed for 18 months after only completing 15 hours of the 150 of unpaid community work that the judge initially sentenced him to, and pretending to have coronavirus.The court heard he apologised to the teenagers after learning they had not stolen his bike and his solicitor
