It has been 76 years since soldiers landed on the beaches of Normandy, in Northern France, to undertake the biggest invasion of World War Two.The Allies landed 156,000 troops in Normandy on this day in 1944 and more than 2 million men from D-Day to August 21st.An estimated 72,911 soldiers were killed or designated missing, with 153,475 wounded in battle.Every year, on June 6th, veterans and relatives return to France to remember those killed on D-Day and honour those fallen in World War Two.Hundreds gather at graves managed by The Commonwealth War Graves Commission, an intergovernmental organisation that serves to commemorate those who died in the two World Wars.On D-Day's 76th.
