A coward who murdered the teenage son of his estranged partner - before trying to flee the country on a dinghy - has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 30 years.
Suleman Altaf, 45, also tried to murder his ex during the horrific attack at her home in Miles Platting. Jakub Szymanski, 15, died after he heroically stepped in and saved his mother Katarzyna Bastek as Altaf stabbed her.
Altaf was discovered almost 24 hours later on a dinghy in the English channel and had to be rescued by an RNLI crew. Following a trial at Manchester Crown Court, he was found guilty of Jakub’s murder.
He was also convicted of the attempted murder of Ms Bastek, who suffered serious injuries, and of possessing a knife in a public place.
