A brisk Boxing Day walk is a tradition guaranteed to blow away the fog of Christmas excess. A saunter along local footpaths or a trek across countryside will wake us up and get the engine running after too many mince pies.
But for one couple their walk yesterday ended in a shock, surprise, and deflated the festive mood. They were cutting through the former Heyrod Power Station walking towards Stalybridge Country Park when they were stopped in their tracks as they spotted something through the mist.
The man and woman were doing a circular walk when they made their way along a cobbled road which was an access route to the power station site.
The man said: "We set out for a festive walk in the morning like we normally do. We went by the canal then cut through the Heyrod Power Station which is a cobbled area that leads you to Stalybridge Country Park. "The area is looking a bit rough and run down.
