Two million people vulnerable to coronavirus should now stay off work and school, new Government guidance states. The updated national advice for the second wave in England will leave thousands worried about loss of earnings.

The change comes as the country heads in to its second lockdown today. The advise says the vulnerable staff should go absent if they cannot work from home.

It adds that they “may” be eligible for Statutory Sick Pay, Employment and Support Allowance, Universal Credit or the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.

The 2.3 million “clinically extremely vulnerable” group includes some people living with cancer, organ donor recipients and people with severe lung conditions such as cystic fibrosis.
