Coronavirus: Thousands of prisoners break out of Brazil jails in riots amid outbreak

As many as 1,000 prisoners broke out of four Brazilian jails overnight in riots over a coronavirus crackdown. The raging lags escaped from prisons after they were told they would be denied day-release in a bid to prevent killer coronavirus entering the jail upon their return.

Hundreds of prisoners broke out of four Brazilian jails on Monday, the day before their day-release privileges were due to be suspended over the coronavirus outbreak, local media reported.
