Coronavirus Scotland: Ban on gatherings of more than 10 people 'should last until 2021 to stop second wave'

Rules stopping large gatherings of people inside should remain in force until 2021, according to a senior public health expert.

The associate professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine has warned that the UK may face a second wave of the virus if lockdown measures are lifted too early and large events are allowed to run again.

Adam Kucharski worries people will meet up in large numbers to mark the end of social-distancing leading to a sharp rise in new cases.Dr Kuckarski's study suggested that on average one infected person goes on to infect three more at a typical social gathering.
