Thousands of British army troops could hit the streets when the UK hits "peak coronavirus " - which could be as early as next month.
Lieutenant-General Tyrone Urch has drawn up contingency plans that will see the army step in to keep supermarkets shelves full and petrol stations topped up with fuel under the codename Operation Rescript, Daily Mirror reports.
They could also work with emergency services if their staff are struck down by the deadly bug, leaving their resources depleted.
Royal Military Police could help support local constabularies, while troops may be used to drive ambulances and fire engines.
