Fernhill star Scott Williamson hopes to hit the goals trail again and says signing an 18-month deal at Clyde will help him settle down into his game. The 24-year-old was snapped up by the Bully Wee after leaving Queen’s Park, and made his debut in a 2-1 defeat at Bonnyrigg Rose on February 1.Williamson was signed by the Spiders in 2022 from West of Scotland League side Cambuslang Rangers, having scored 43 goals in 27 games at that level. That didn’t work out for Williamson, and the striker spent loan spells at Cove Rangers and Kelty Hearts, before landing his move to Clyde in League Two.Having netted nine goals in 26 games for Kelty in League One, Williamson feels he’s ready to hit that form again, netting the second in a 2-0 win over Stranraer on Saturday.“Being wanted makes a big difference,” said Williamson. “Every time I was going out on loan from Queen’s Park – definitely at Cove – I felt like I was putting too much pressure on myself.“If I don’t do this here, who knows what’s going to happen, and that’s maybe why I didn’t really do as well up there.“Travelling up and down to Aberdeen, two and a half hours, sometimes a four-hour round trip, really does take its toll on your legs and the mind, as well.“If you’re travelling up there and not playing, it really isn’t the best for you.“With the 18 months at Clyde, I’ve got a bit of security, but I think that will be a lot better for me as well.“I definitely think I’ll push on and start scoring a few more goals.”Williamson is pleased also to be more local, and says he always kept an eye out for Clyde’s results.“I was happy it happened,” he said. “Being wanted is a big thing.
