Closed bank customers with money still in accounts asked to contact North Lanarkshire Council for withdrawals

Following the recent closure of the North Lanarkshire Municipal Bank, any remaining account holders who still have money in the bank are being asked to contact the council directly to arrange withdrawals.

The funds are being held by the local authority on customers' behalf after the bank shut due to changes in the way banks have to carry out anti-fraud and money laundering measure s and customer due diligence over the past decade.

Elaine Kemp, company secretary, told Lanarkshire Live : “All customers were contacted directly on a number of occasions prior to the bank closing at the end of September, alongside an extensive communications programme to highlight the bank’s closure via social media and other communication methods to maximise account withdrawals before the bank’s formal closure.
