Chaos descended on a leafy south Manchester street after a house "clear out" turned into a huge police operation. Armed officers swooped on the property in Brantingham Road, Chorlton, on Monday evening (September 2).

It came after reports of 'suspicious items' being found. 'Several' imitation firearms were discovered inside the semi-detached house.

Just hours after the removal men departed on Monday afternoon, "loads of police vans" descended on the street. “I didn’t know what on earth had happened," said one woman, who asked not to be named. "I thought someone had tried to rob the house or there had been a fight." Another neighbour added: "They had two big vans clearing the house earlier in the day.
