Jobcentre on busy street 'evacuated' as police scrambled over 'suspicious package'

A Jobcentre was reportedly 'evacuated' as police responded to reports of a 'suspicious package' in Oldham this morning. Officers were called to the scene on Union Street earlier today following 'reports of a suspicious package located in a business'.

The Manchester Evening News understands that members of the public and staff were asked to leave the Jobcentre as an alarm sounded.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said the incident was a false alarm. It was 'stood down' a short time after.
