Former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness claims the Old Firm joining the English Premier League would be a DISASTER and says cities south of the border would be “under siege” if it ever did happen.
The idea of Celtic and Rangers has often been discussed, particularly when Wyness was at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004. However, it was a battle he continually fought against - including when he was on the other side and worked for both Aston Villa and Everton in the English top flight.
In 2009 the English Premier League rejected a plan by the late Bolton Wanderers chairman Phil Gartside for a two-tier league of between 36 and 40 teams, with the Glasgow giants introduced.
And, a quarter of a century on, Wyness says it’s a complete non-starter, telling Football Insider: “Personally, I think it would be a disaster.
