Car engulfed in flames on Princess Parkway as fire crews rush to scene

Firefighters rushed to the scene of a car engulfed in flames in the middle of Princess Parkway this afternoon. Shortly after 2.45pm today (February 19), a fire engine was called to reports of a vehicle on fire on Princess Parkway, near to Chorlton and Didsbury.

Smoke was seen billowing out of the vehicle as firefighters arrived at the scene. READ MORE: Ian Wright in car crash on way to Manchester amid aftermath of Storm Eunice Firefighters from Wythenshawe station used a breathing apparatus and a hose reel to extinguish the fire.

Fire crews remained at the scene for over half an hour. Crews from North West Ambulance Service were also in attendance. Princess Parkway, between the M60 J5 and Barlow Moor Road, faced delays as crews responded to the incident.

Lane closures were also in place causing up to 15 minutes of queuing traffic. It is not yet clear how the fire started. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 2.45pm this afternoon (Saturday 19 February) we were called to reports of a vehicle on fire on Princess Parkway, Manchester. “One fire engine from Wythenshawe attended, and firefighters used a breathing apparatus and a hose reel to extinguish the fire. “The crew cleared debris from the roadway before departing after just over half an hour at the scene.” It is not the only fire to have occurred in Manchester today, with firefighters also responding to a house fire in Tameside and another in Rochdale.
