Camilla’s ex-husband has been handed a new Royal role – attending a funeral on behalf of the Queen Consort. Brigadier Andrew Parker Bowles, 82, represented his ex-wife at the funeral of John Bowes-Lyon – second cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II – at Brompton Oratory in Knightsbridge, London. The move was revealed in the Court Circular, the official record of royal engagements.
It said: “The King was represented by the Earl of Rosslyn at the Funeral of Mr John Bowes-Lyon. It added: “The Queen Consort was represented by Brigadier Andrew Parker Bowles.” Parker Bowles was married to Camilla, 75, for more than 20 years.
Mr Bowes-Lyon, whose funeral was on Tuesday, died last month at the age of 80. Parker Bowles stepped in on behalf of the Queen Consort as she and King Charles III visited Project Zero Walthamstow – an east London organisation that works to engage young people in positive activities to reduce anti-social behaviour and offending – while promoting social inclusion and strengthening community cohesion.
King Charles, 73, and Camilla appeared in high spirits as they were greeted by dozens of schoolchildren who waved Union Jack flags.
