Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Miguel Borges Fernandes (born 8 September 1994) is a Portuguese footballer who plays for Primeira Liga club Sporting CP and the Portugal national team as a midfielder. Fernandes started his career at Serie B side Novara Calcio and soon featured for Udinese and Sampdoria in Serie A.

In 2017, he signed with Sporting CP where he established himself as one of the best players in the Primeira Liga. He was named the LPFP Primeira Liga Player of the Year in both 2017–18 and 2018–19. In the latter season, he also helped Sporting win the Taça de Portugal. A senior international since 2017, Fernandes represented Portugal at the 2016 Summer Olympics and 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Manchester United ace Bruno Fernandes credits a coach from his Sampdoria playing days for helping him with his unique penalty technique.

The Portugal international has wasted no time in taking over penalty duties at the club since his arrival from Sporting Lisbon in January.

With Paul Pogba sidelined since January, Fernandes has been stepping up to the spot when it matters most. Fernandes scored his first penalty for the Red Devils in a 3-0 win over Watford in February and fans noticed his unusual spot-kick routine.

Similar to Chelsea midfielder Jorginho’s technique, Fernandes takes an odd skip right before he strikes the ball, often going for placement over power.
