Brits pack out UK beaches in heatwave - as coronavirus cases soar in Cornwall

Britain's best beaches have been jam-packed today as a scramble for staycation bookings sees prices soar - along with coronavirus cases.

Thousands of Britons crowded onto beaches to enjoy a mini-heatwave before "fantastic Fryday" brings yet more sunshine tomorrow, while some city dwellers were unable to afford a break.

Parts of the country enjoyed 84F (29C) heat before what is forecast to be the hottest day of the year at 91F today (Friday).

Sunbathers thronged Cornwall, Lyme Regis, Dorset, and Camber, East Sussex as we enjoyed temperatures hotter than Spain....with concerns raised about the "one-metre plus'" social distancing rules as the sands grew busier.
