The millionaire owner of Pimlico Plumbers has sacked staff who refused to return to work after being furloughed during the coronavirus crisis.

The company's CEO Charlie Mullins says around 30 members of its 450-strong workforce were fired or took voluntary redundancy after they declined to come back to work on Friday.

He also claimed that those who declined were the same ones who "ran out the office" at the start of the pandemic. Mr Mullins told the Mail on Sunday: "I had people begging to come back to work and I had other people telling everybody the last thing they wanted to do was to go back to work and they’ll stay on furlough as long as they can.
