A British man has drowned in the sea in Greece, according to reports. The tragedy happened in Kerasia in northern Corfu at around 5.30pm yesterday afternoon.
Desperate onlookers attempted to pull him from the sea after seeing him struggling in the water several hundred metres from the shore, witnesses said.
Coastguard officers frantically tried to save his life, but were unable to do so and the 27-year-old died before he reached the hospital, Corfu Press reports.
The victim is believed to have been in Corfu on holiday with his girlfriend, according to news site Enimerosi, which says the man who died was 24.
