The filmmaker, best known for comedies like “Spy,” will direct a new feature film for Blumhouse, the production company behind horror hits like “The Purge” and “Get Out.” It’s based on a New York Magazine article by William Brennan that has already led to the Netflix unscripted television series “Worst Roommate Ever.” Blumhouse produced the series, which has been a popular success — its first two seasons both ranked among the 10 most-watched shows on Netflix globally when they premiered.

Feig’s film will follow a newly single woman who finds a “seemingly perfect gentleman” to sublet a spare room in her home. However, she quickly discovers that his lies extend beyond providing a fake name and falsified application.
